Phil is a pretty ordinary guy.  Though he has a tendency to forget things and remember them again hours later, and seems rather dimwitted, he is actually rather intelligent.  He grew up with a wonderful family in Virginia: His younger brother acts more mature than Phil seems to be but is currently in his second year of college, his older sister is a music teacher at an elementry school. His mother is very kind but constantly on the move while his father is a senior computer programmer for a large corporation.

Phil's family line is nothing special-- except not a single relative of his was affected by the “Weirding". While normally this isn't all that amazing, none of them possess the same quality as Phil: He is completely immune to any effects from magic. This ability was first seen before the sealing of magic many, many years ago. This ability was called "Null", and the last person to possess such a power was the man that helped bring down The Five Magi when they were at their peak. Phil not only has this "Null" power against magic but it may have evolved from its protection from magic to physical harm as well, as he tends to get thrown around a lot but never seriously injured, with some exceptions.

Even with this ability Phil has no "super strength" or "incredible powers" other than his invulnerability.  Phil is constantly thinking about his relationships with people; trying to make everyone happy at his own expense, so he rarely turns down favors from friends and family. However, this has him second-guessing himself when it comes to Kate. He wants her to be happy, but he doesn't know how to help her.  He knows can't totally comprehend what her life has been like up to now.

He is currently in a relationship with Kate and works as a waiter for Blue at the Java Journal.

Kate has led a hard life.  She was like any other little girl until one night defined her life forever.  When she was nine years old the Weirding spread around the world and she suddenly became a "Catgirl" early into the night. Her parents panicked, not understanding what was happening and threw the recently transformed Kate out of her home.  On the streets she hid from the riots raging in the streets after spending an hour or two banging on the door of her former home, begging to be let in.

She was found in the morning by a gang of teens who decided to "kill the little monster.” They beat her until the police arrived and they scattered. The officer on call reluctantly picked her up, after having realized what she was, and took her back to the police station. After that day, she lived most of her life with foster parents and made it through school. Kate has spent most of her life trying to figure out how and why her parents could have done that to their own child, and she doesn't know if they even recognized her or perhaps thought she had killed their daughter and taken her place.  She really doesn't know the answer, only that her parents looked both scared and furious at the same time.

Finding an interest in Japanese anime, and traveling to several anime conventions, Kate found that most people accepted her there, but it was hollow and shallow at best. She made money by appearing at conventions as a receptionist, and later helped with sales in dealer's rooms and helping around as a staffer. It wasn't much at first but people realized how helpful she was and soon enough she was making enough to travel to conventions along the East coast. 

On one particular trip to Florida her bus driver refused to let her ride on "his" bus. Unable to get a taxi or a hotel room in the area she found an ad for someone looking for a roommate. With nothing really to loose she checked it out. From there she met Phil, Penpen, and his strange friends.  Being around Phil, she rarely had time to think about her past.  She found herself to actually be happy sometimes, and she was very grateful for it-- but she was also confused by it. Was she happy because she was in love with Phil? Or was she just escaping the truth and using Phil as an excuse to think about something else?

Currently She lives with Phil in Yorktown Virginia and works at a Cafe and Bookstore called Java Journal (owned by friend Jen also known as Blue) as a waitress. She is currently in a relationship with Phil.

More On Miyo Later.

Toyoko is the third robot-girl to be made by Shiden. Like all of his robot girls they have “artifical souls”: uncontrolled results on personalities and model shapes. Made so she would be more realistic, her key personality isn't set by Shiden at all. Like her sisters, they all are not set to be his "model woman". For instance-- Toyoko is practically obsessed with Shiden, but he didn't make her that way. She acquired it, like many humans develop traits early in life.

Toyoko is constantly reminded by Nami that she doesn't fit Shiden's "ideal woman", but she is still determined to win him over. Toyoko and Nami are very different, but despite their differences they would risk their lives for each other as well as their new friend Rieko. Her older "sister" would be Miyo, but they like to think of her as a younger sister now. Toyoko doesn't show it much, but she worries about Miyo sometimes- she has been checking up on her using Shiden's computer but she always gets back the same readings. Miyo is happy with Tom.

And yes... for those wondering-- Toyoko has the largest breasts in the female cast. The Demoness is a close second... then Blue and then Kate...

Nami is the 2nd Robot girl to be made by Shiden. After activation she spent as much time away from Shiden as possible. She just didn't like him, his personality, his jokes, the way he looked at - well anything just bothered her. Several weeks after her activation she helped Shiden with getting his machine up and ready for mass production. Shiden realized Nami wasn't too fond of helping him so he went ahead and had the machine produce another, hopefully more helpful robot girl. That was when Nami met Toyoko. After waking Toyoko saw Shiden and appeared to suddenly overheat. Nami helped her out of the "factory" (at the time Shiden's Club house basement), and taught her a few tricks at regulating her cooling systems. She noticed that this heating problem was caused by Toyoko being flooded with emotions around Shiden. Nami deduced that Shiden changed some of the programing to force Toyoko to like him.

Naturally she became even more disgusted with Shiden and started asking for missions that kept her away from Shiden. Shiden had no problem with that and sent Toyoko with her. While Nami was happy to have Toyoko with her Toyoko had mixed feelings of wanting to stay with Shiden, and stay with her best friend. But since Shiden insisted she worked with Nami she had little trouble deciding. Nami seems to often get the short end of the stick, and on top of it all she was created with a slight southern accent. No matter what she tried she couldn't get it to go away... she blames this on Shiden as well. Her combative abilities are pretty high and was the first to include the new more stable power system. She usually doesn't seem very happy, but after meeting Blue her life has become more interesting, and a whole lot more confusing.

She blames it all on Shiden.

Axel, I mean- The DARKLORD- is a rather interesting guy. While not exactly "evil" he's not always "good". He has a tendency to appear from portals filled with demons and monsters- believed by mystics to be a part of the astral plane--a realm of magic and the supernatural parallel to our world; Specifically, the demon world (yeah a part of Hell).

Though mature for his age, DL was like most kids his until the Weirding change when he was twelve years old. That night he was shocked to have a naked woman suddenly appear on his bed: a demon that had apparently been waiting for that moment. But before he had time to make sense of it he had to fight to hold onto his body as a great demon tried to use the opportunity to return to the human world after the sealing of magic on Earth severed the ability to create gateways from the demon world to Earth.

The demon tried to use DL's body as a gateway because his ties to the demon world's magic more than nearly any other person at the time. With the demoness' help DL wasn't able to keep the demon from entering his mind, but instead trapped him in an endless maze that allowed DL to retain his self. Since then, DL has asked Naoko, as a powerful priestess, to help banish the demon from his body.

After the Weirding took place, DL gained the ability to see demons and magical auras, along with the ability to manipulate demonic magics rather easily. Darklord is a friend of Phil's, and while they normally didn't see each other often while down in Florida, they tried to keep in touch. But Phil's obsession with cute animes made it difficult for DL to come over, as the "cute anime girls" and such caused DL's evil aura to spontaneously combust his clothing and sometimes even his skin. It's painful-- but he always regenerates damaged cells thanks to his magic. Still, it isn't worth risking all the time. Azumanga seems to have an even greater effect...

Shisou comes from a large and rather famous family, at least famous in the underworld of Japan.  For a long time the Kobayashi family has been praised for raising strong martial artists... oh who are we kidding here? Ninjas!  They have a long history of ninjas-- or lack there of-- because well-- a good ninja can't be traced back to their family.  Point is, the people who know how and where to hire such a person knows the Kobayashi family used to be the place to turn to. That was, until a mission that ended in horrible failure, lead by Shisou.

Shisou came back empty handed, and he blamed the only other ninja known to have survived whatever had occurred at the place of his target: his rival, Tom, an American kid that was extremely skilled at everything he did.  Shisou had to work hard to be as good as he is now but Tom always seemed a step ahead of him.  He was even allowed to work as an outsider for a rival family with only a few months of training, something that Shisou broods over, and hasn't forgotten.

Shisou's grudge hasn't been completely lifted even now- as Shisou helps Tom prove he had nothing to do with the failed mission-- and also to help defeat the ones who were behind it, the Magi of Power.  Shisou is currently married to the beautiful but sometimes overpowering Naoko, who is quite possibly the most gifted priestess since before the sealing of magic.

Naoko is a very gifted priestess and temple maiden.  Her ability to manipulate spiritual power became apparent at the age of four, the earliest any priestess had since the sealing of magic many years ago.  She trained her gifts at her family's temple which had recently begun to loose visitors and funding. Naoko's father had agreed to an arrangement that his daughter would marry the son of the Kobayashi family, Shisou Kobayashi.  In doing so Naoko's family temple was given all the funding it needed to sustain them and also allowed the family to acquire other temples they considered sacred and protected them from destruction.

Originally Naoko was scared of the young Shisou, who would often tease her and scare her, until she "fought back".  She would show up randomly at his home and hug him and kiss him in front of his ninja friends and relatives, and embarrass him in ways that he just couldn't stand.  She continued her assaults on him often, and finally he tried to avoid her at all times, but it didn't work.  No matter where he went she found him and over time he just gave up.  He couldn't win, and he couldn't hurt her or driver her away- so he just accepted his "miserable" life... She really does love and care for him but she has never stopped teasing him.

After the Weirding took place she didn't gain any new powers.  Rather, the limit on her powers was lifted greatly.  Though not actually a Chimera - one of those altered by the Weirding- the event has nonetheless given her greater access to magical power that was sealed away for eons. She has banished many spirits that have caused trouble in areas around cities and towns and has practiced with banishment processes, or exorcism rites, that involve demons, though she has never actually banished one.  She possess an amazingly strong will and the ability to measure her own strength against a foe quickly. She can sense demonic powers, but she knows very well that if a demon doesn't want to be known it is near impossible to detect them until they use their powers.

Naoko also has several other gifts using her power:  She can channel her power though others and or put them into objects, making her a skilled worker in magic runes.  Runes can take a power and change it dramatically- it can take raw magical or any kind and expel it as something else- making it a very valuable skill, which she has displayed once by using her power through a paper talisman to create a pillar of stone and cause a psionic burst to "take down" an old "mountain witch".

Lien, the single known personal body guard for Shiden. Not much is known about her. She was created in December to help protect Shiden after he moved his buisness forward (FT Robotics). He thought being a rich buisness man might put him at some risk and so he created a small amount of Version 4 Combat type Robot Girls. The Combat types have triple the power capacity that the normal robot girls have. They do not have emergency combative processors (those are a set of processors used when a robot girl is in danger - they can release the limit and have these processors calculate combative scenarios and react accordingly. Making every robot girl able to protect themselves, but to gain full use of it they loose all emotional control temporarily). The combat types are trained and have massive learning capacity for martial arts and other forms of combat. They surpress their emotions, but Shiden does not create robot girls with no emotions, he finds it cruel to create something that is suposed to be very human and not give it the gift of having true feelings.

Lien has her moments and her likes and dislikes. She likes being the "Knight in Shining Armor". She likes people that seem helpless, it makes her feel like she's doing something very good. She hate's seeing people pick on the weak, and will step in unless ordered not to. Though she is built for combat when she isn't in a situation that requires her attention she likes to read mystery novels and suspence novels, and has a thing for uniforms. She rarely get's to let loose in combat, but when she does she likes to use hand guns and for melee prefers kicks to punches. Her prefered martial arts uses her arms to defend and block while attacking with her legs.

Rieko's story is a strange and sad one, tied with her younger brother.  When Rieko was fifteen, she was changed by the Weirding, and killed that same night.  Rieko was out late at a friend's house and on her way home when the Weirding began. She was still trying to figure out what was going on and caught downtown in her home city when a small gang, nothing more than a group of teens, saw her panicking on the sidewalk and dragged her into a back alley where they murdered her.  Her younger brother out looking for his sister was too late to help as she was dragged screaming into the alley.  Before he could say anything the gang came out and patted Cain on his shoulder and said, "There, another monster down so you don't have to worry about it.  Aren't you glad we are around to take care of things when the police aren't?"

Cain had nightmares every night of every day of that event. He ended up meeting a man that claimed that those Chimeras were just changed physically-- and some day they would be the leaders of the world!  He gave Cain a job, accelerated his ability to learn through magic-- and made him the leader of a scientific branch of a company the mysterious man owned.  Over time, Cain managed to find a way to bring his sister back to life: Using Nami as a model for recreating the body and using Darklord's demonic powers to pull Rieko's soul from the afterlife.

Unfortunately her new brain began to malfunction at the memories of her death-- and the memory of seeing Cain watch her die. Nami was able to compress Rieko's memory as well as remove some of it and put it into herself.  As a result, Nami now thinks of Rieko as a little sister in some ways. Rieko is still scared to death of Cain-- but has very little memory of her old life and her death, but she knows that Shiden told her that her soul and memories were real-- she just doesn't remember the details about it that caused her to relive the shock of the events.  She now lives with Shiden and his robot-girls, mainly Nami and Toyoko, and has deep feelings for Shiden... the first human she saw that she felt she could truly trust. 

Jen, like Kate, survived the riots of the night the Weirding took place.  Her parents were killed when a fire broke out and spread to their house.  She managed to escape the burning home and stumbled into the streets as the fire trucks arrived. The firefighters, confused by the half girl/half animal crying in the street decided to bind her hands and feet and put her in the truck until they put out the fire. Afterwards, the report of their capturing one of the "creatures" made its way to a secret government agency that had just received orders to find and take in some of these “Chimeras.”

Blue was taken off to a facility and isolated from people for several weeks with the exception of someone to go in and serve her food and drink and occasionally to drop off something to keep her mind busy. Over that time they moved her to a school-like facility where she and a few others like her began simple education while being monitored.  Months later, she was moved again- this time to a lab as a new head of research took over after the first one had failed to keep several of his "subjects" alive. The new director treated her more like a daughter than a pet, and he personally made sure her room was comfortable and spent lots of time with her, keeping her company while taking notes. 

After a year he managed to get together an education group set up and they began schooling for 5 days a week that was monitored. Four years later, she was released and given a place to live and joined a public school for the last couple years of her education. The Director insisted on this after his research had "proven" that she and all other Chimeras that have not shown any extraordinary powers were basically human and should be treated as humans. The Director now sends her extra money out of his own pocket when he can afford to... as he now either feels sorry for what she had to go through or because he has decided to act as her guardian- no one but him is sure of the reason why.  She now has a job at a bookstore in Virginia, where she meets Kate at a local convention.  Thrilled to meet another like herself, she discussed her concerns about if the Weirding had affected their minds or had they just changed physically. They came to the conclusion that they had only been altered in body alone.

Yes, she is a lesbian, yes she is after Nami.

The Five are the most gifted magic users. Each has an element and each commands that element perfectly. Water, Fire, Earth, Power, Life/Death, each element has it's sets of magic they control. Fire is an element of chaos and destruction, making it's focus combative and alteration. It was the sudden release of some of the magical element of Fire back into the world that caused the Weirding, Fire is connected with Death and Power. The power of Water is used for Divination and Illusion, it is linked most strongly with Life and Earth giving it some healing powers as well. Power, mistakenly called "Lightning" sometimes, has the power to manipulate minds as well as pure destructive power, it is often considered the "Pure Magic" in the sense that it is the most common magic used by magical beasts and creatures. The reason for this is not because it is "Pure" but rather it's strengths make it easier for such creatures to use it. Since Power's magic has been completely released into the world many Magical creatures have awoken, most obvious are the Goblins, small weak creatures that come in thousands of different forms and shapes. Other creatures include ogres, trolls, pixies, griffions, drakes, salamanders (the fire sprites), and many more. Power is connected strongly with Death and Fire. Earth, one of the more gentle elements, along with Water, has great manipulation over physical non-intelegent creations. Focusing on manipulation, transformation, and creation, Earth has great power over land formations but because of it's gentle nature it is not related to destruction at all, though it can create earthquakes to demolish cities.

Earth is closely related to Water and Life. Life and Death, togeather as one though they seem opposite. Without life and death we do not know what would happen to the world, and so neither of these Magics or Magic was sealed. If you seal Death does that mean no one can ever die? If you seal Life does everything die? If both are sealed what happens? The power of Life and Death were weakened greatly when the other magics were sealed. The other magics took all their power from the strongest element left, causing Life and Death to only be able to support their most basic uses. But now with the other magics returning they have strengthened once again. Life can be used to heal or even resurrect a recently killed person. The power of Death is destruction, the controller of such magic can kill a person with a wave of their hand at full strength, but in a weakened state it is still to be feared. The amount of time it takes for someone or for a part of someone to die is determined by the user, so a slow and very painful end is just as possible as being snuffed out in an instant. Death also has the power to enhance any destructive power. Though it seems these powers are not as versatile, the controllers of these two abilities are also able to call upon the magics they are most strongly linked with, and togeather It is said Life and Death can create spells more powerful than any other.

Other Magics?
There are other known magics in the world. The two most well known are Celestial and Demon. Celestial magic is believed to be drawn from the afterlife, the source of "good", Heaven. While Demon magic comes from the Demon world, a secton of Hell, not the place for evil human souls but an area reserved for the creatures of evil spawned through ill will and the "best of intentions". Despite the idea that all demons are evil, there have been many demons that have joined the Celestial world, and some celestials have fallen to the Demon world. Between the two, before magic was sealed many demons and celestials spent a lot of time on Earth. It was here some demons changed their ways, and some celestials fell. To demons Earth was a place to change, or a place to conquer. To celestials it was a place to learn about emotions and mortality. So many of both groups would venture to Earth when able to. Man had developed many ways to reduce the travel between the worlds and into Earth, as well as created organizations to monitor and in some cases, remove the demons or celestials from Earth.
Other magics? Do they exist? Some believe that the power of the Null is it's own magic. Others think the idea that a magic exists to nullify other magics is rediculous. Either way, they don't know. There are other magics, of this there is no doubt, but they are either too rare to be noticed in the world or just too weak or simular to those of the Five, the Celestials, or the Demons...
