Bad luck as in that motherly figures with that hairstyle rarely make it out of the flashback or prologue of a story… but there comes Kate to the rescue. And I think this shows Kate is welcoming and accepting of the addition to the family.
There’s a meme about that hairstyle?
in a fair number of anime that hairstyle tends to be the one worn by mothers who died or will die
It’s a trope, actually…
Can healing magic work on not-really-living hair or did Kate find a workaround?
looks like illusion
Not healing, but creation magic can.
Was Kates magical genes paternal or maternal?
Kate’s magic is orichalcum-based since chimeras don’t normally have the ability to innately cast magic, iirc? It’s been hundreds of pages (edit: after going through the archive, turns out it’s already been over a thousand pages!) since she started lessons, but here’s the beginning of Kate learning how to cast spells: https://www.yoshsaga.com/comic/sudden-shower/
Chimera with animal body parts (natural magic users are technically chimera too) became like this because all their innate magic was used up in their transformation, when Fire undid the seal in an improper way.
Blue only has ears and a tail while Kate also has stripes means that Kate had more innate magic to begin with.
I don’t recall when this was first said, but it is mentioned again by Kate here: https://www.yoshsaga.com/comic/useless-stripes/
So while Kate’s current magic is done via her orichalcum jewellery, she also had a born natural magic potential that could’ve come for either, or both, parents.
“The hairstyle is magic – literally.”
Just thinking about the fact that Kate’s egg donor (biological mother), doesn’t want Kate to be able to change her last name, and went through the trouble of getting government cronies to help prevent it all because Kate is a chimera. I just hope that the girls talked to Phil about it and he decides to take Kate’s instead.
Shame Kate didn’t take Yuki up on the offer of making all those Chimera haters turn into Chimera’s themselves, letting them see how it feels to be ostracized by people they’ve known for years, just because they woke up wearing a new body without their knowledge or control one morning.
