Shiden, do give that poor girl an artificial eye will ya
Why do you think she needs and artificial eye? Her aim seems more than adequate.
Yeah- she managed to hit the target 40% of the time according to the knife marks? That’s good for someone with one good eye? (It’s really not.)
Maybe she hit the previous target enough times that she had to put up a new one? 😀
Lack of depth perception
Dont you also tend to close a eye when aiming as you non dominant eye tends to mess you up? I know it’s the case for many guns and was also taught to do with bows, pretty sure you do it with darts as well. Sure depth helps but only with up and down. Closed eye helps with aiming left and right. Soo she just sucks at aiming.
Once you start lining up the shot, sure, but with throwing weapons and anything else that has a lot of drop, you need both eyes to accurately gauge distance. You might be able to compensate if you have a known size of something to use as reference, but this is hardly particularly reliable or something that you do naturally. Plus these are throwing knives if she’s throwing overhand and not side or submarine, up and down is the main thing
I love that experts in this sort of thing have come out to share their knowledge.
As a one eyed person, I can say that there are a couple of different factors going on here that contribute to Maya’s lack of accuracy. First is depth perception which is shown by number of shots that vertically miss the target both above and below. She’s not putting the right weight behind those throws. Second is something called parallax incorrection which is where her body either doesn’t compensate for the missing eye or over corrects, as shown by the horizontal misses. This takes a lot of time and practice to fix. This one is still a work in progress for me even after a decade. Sorry for the wall of text. Just thought I could bring some context to what’s happening here.
Hmm… That’s a thought. If Maya did jump over to to FT employment and she did get an orihalcum powered eye as her signing bonus, would she be able to use it to power spells the way Kate does?
So far, Kate is the only non-mage chimera we’ve seen use magic, and this with external assistance.
But she’s very good at it, and it was established that all chimera have magical ability, but the animal chimeras had their talent turned into animal-like features and enhanced reflexes and strength, and not inherent magic ability.
Would Maya and other animal chimera have similar ability?
Lynx(?) eared girl (Maya) is smart and sensible. She should get a gold start!
Well with all the cat girls, and cat robot girls (thanks to Nami) Blue might get an idea for a new business opportunity… A cat girl cafe …
I would, in all honesty, be surprised if no one has done this already in world where catgirls became a thing. Of course difference might lay in the point “are they actually being treated nicely or not”. Later pages kind of dull it away, but we have to remember that chimeras/animal ear people faced extreme bullying and racial degeneration when it happened…
A ‘Catfe’ if you will
When’s the last time we saw Maya? I have trouble keeping track of side characters sometimes.
Lol Instant loyalty do to knowing her name. Geez she has had it rough.
“Look, a small army of killer androids are landing here. Do you want me to just teleport you off the island, or you want to take your chances of not being killed by that army?”
I think lot of sensible non-fanatic people pick the former option.
That only works if she knows the invaders will win. If death wins then she is a deserter. In that case hidding or fighting would be better as she would be hunted down for leaving. She doesn’t know how strong the invaders are exactly. So the debate of which side to bet on is real. Also remember that like the invaders they also have killer robots and theirs look much scarier.(just talking looks but it does matter as she may not realise lien is a robot) Plus her side has death on its side. It’s not like she is in some undefended village. And leaving does have consequences. Plus if she just said I’ll just hide she would likely not be touched. She knows she isn’t a target do to this offer. So no it isnt that cut and dry. The best choice is say you’ll just hide as then no matter who wins your safe as long as you dont get caught in crossfire. And that base is sure to have some tough rooms. Like were the demon prince was physically sealed in.
If this was a bit harsh sorry but I dont exactly like being called fanatical or not sensible for something I didn’t even say. As I didn’t judge her for her choice simply got a kick out of why she chose.
