Just gonna say, Friday’s comic, my fans tried to gaslight me. People be like “It’s lodestone! Not Loadstone!” and I’m like “Well I know lodestone is a thing, but- so is loadstone- I feel like I even explained this in the comic…” But people keep saying I’m wrong- but I’m not crazy! YOU’RE CRAZY! It IS loadstone! As i said in the comic 100 years ago- err- 1700+ comics ago – “I think it’s made of loadstone.” “Phil, magnets don’t work like that.” “Not magnets lodestone. Magic.” A magical stone that gets heavier when exposed to magic! It’s based on a D&D cursed item from waaay back!

She tends to check in every century, right? That would mean last time, there were 48 states and she would have had to ask why West Virginia exists back then.

Nope, last time she visited West Virginia was already a state. She visited several years after the US civil war ended. I actually have the exact year in my notes XD

I mean… two visits ago, West Virginia would still be a part of Virginia. One visit ago, she would have had to find out about the split so she might have wondered if one of the Carolinas suffered a similar split since then.

That’s assuming that she visited the US two visits ago. Just because she visits Earth, doesn’t mean that she visits the US Continent specifically. Even if she ensured that she spoke the relevant language, she still would have more options with just English &, presumably, (archaic) Japanese.

Then again, she IS magical. She could have spent a few weeks traveling around different continents, simply to ensure that she kept her Earth Language capabilities up-to-date.

Yuki makes hauling boobs saucy. It must be a low table if a shortstack is not coming up short when stacking up against a dinner table? Or did she fly up? Asked for Phil’s help? … ?

[Re last week, perhaps it was a loadedstone topic!? The mineral is simply magnetite.]

i love how her boobs are so big they just rest on the table, looks like the same is for Kate

While I understand the logic of the name & how it works, the story’s history is that there was magic in this world, it disappeared for a LONG while (at least 2000 years, if not far more), and in that time they developed modern tech.

Lodestones (magnets) were placed into the ground buildings due to a belief that they would ensure the building remained stably in place. If we extrapolate from there, it’s reasonable to assume that lodestones (magnets) replaced loadstones (magical) for emotional security on large projects after magic stopped working. Which suggest that they should be spelt the same, despite being different things, especially since we don’t really use the historical name for magnets anymore, even if the name is still common knowledge.

That said, also semi-officially in Yosh Lore, whoever popularizes a magical material can effectively name it, because nobody remembers what it was called. And we have no knowledge of anyone else who has found any Loadstone, alongside it being a logical name for the material, if that’s what Phil wants to call it, that’s what it’s named. The only person who could reasonably tell him otherwise is Yuki, and even if she wanted to, we know she spoke a different language when this stuff was known, so the name she knew it by is irrelevant.

All in all, “Loadstone” makes sense as a name for Yosh’s magical gravity-parody rock. Due to one of the definitions for Load being “a weight or source of pressure borne by someone or something”, as well as pun naming reasons.
